TrailTastic How-To-Guide
Getting Started: Your Account
Your journey begins with setting up your profile. This allows you to save and manage all your ride data.
- Sign Up / Login: The app uses secure phone number verification. Simply enter your number, and you'll receive a code to log in.
- Set Your Profile: After your first login, you'll be prompted to create a display name. You can change this later by going to the Menu → View/Edit Profile.
- Add Your Equipment: In your profile, you can add all your vehicles and gear. Tap Add Equipment and follow the prompts to select your activity, brand, and model (e.g., UTV → Polaris → RZR XP 1000). Adding your equipment here allows you to assign a specific vehicle to each ride you save.
The Main Map: Your Cockpit
The main screen is your map. Here are the primary controls:
- Menu (☰): Opens the main menu where you can access your profile, browse tracks, import files, and more.
- Map Type (Globe/Map Icon): Toggles between Satellite view and a standard Map view.
- Tracking (Location Pin Icon): This is the most important button! Tap it to start and stop recording your ride.
- Trails (Path Icon): Toggles the official trail lines and numbers on and off the map.
- Labels ('#' Icon): Manually toggle the visibility of trail name labels. Note that labels automatically appear when you zoom in close.
- Report Issue (Triangle Icon): Tap this to report an issue on the trail closest to your current GPS location.
- Re-center (Dice Icon): When you are tracking a ride, this button appears if you pan the map away from your location. Tapping it re-centers the map on you and enables auto-centering, so the map will follow you as you move.
- Zoom Controls (+/-): Zoom in and out of the map.
How to Record a Ride
Recording your path is the core feature of TrailTastic. It's simple:
- Tap the Tracking Button (location pin icon) on the right side of the screen.
- If prompted, grant the app location permissions. For best results, choose "Allow While Using App."
- The button will turn orange and glow, indicating that your ride is now being recorded. You will see a dotted orange and white line appear on the map as you move.
- When your ride is complete, tap the glowing Tracking Button again.
- A menu will appear. Choose Save & Finish.
- You'll be prompted to select which of your saved vehicles you used for the ride. Tap your choice.
- That's it! Your track is now saved to your account and will be uploaded to the cloud. If you're offline, it will be saved locally and sync automatically when you reconnect.
How to Report a Trail Issue
Found a downed tree or a washout? Reporting issues helps keep the trail system information up-to-date for everyone. You can report an issue from a specific point on the map.
- Long-press on the map at the exact location of the issue. The app will identify the closest trail.
- A panel will appear. Select the type of issue (e.g., Blocked, Erosion, Downed Tree).
- You can add optional comments to provide more detail.
- Tap Submit Report. That's it! The report is sent to trail administrators.
Managing Your Tracks
All your saved rides, plus tracks shared by the community, can be found in the track browser.
- Go to Menu → Browse All Tracks.
- A panel will slide up with two tabs:
- My Tracks: Shows all the rides you have personally recorded and saved.
- Public Tracks: Shows rides that other users have chosen to share with the community.
- Filtering: Use the "Filter by..." buttons in the main menu to narrow down the tracks shown in the browser by a specific Trail System or by a specific type of Equipment.
- Track Options: On the "My Tracks" tab, tap the (...) button on any track to open a menu of actions:
- Make Public/Private: Toggle whether your track is visible to others on the "Public Tracks" tab.
- Download GPX: Export the raw GPX file for use in other applications.
- Generate PDF Report: Creates a detailed PDF of your ride, including a map of your path and a list of all the trails you traversed.
- Delete Track: Permanently removes the track from your account.
- Viewing a Track: Simply tap on any track in the list (either yours or a public one) to display its path on the main map. A red "X" button will appear on the left to clear the track from the map view.
Importing a GPX File
Have a GPX file from another device or a friend? You can add it to your TrailTastic account.
- Go to Menu → Import GPX File.
- Use the file browser to locate and select your GPX file.
- The app will process the file and automatically prompt you to save it to your account, just like a ride you recorded yourself.
